Picnic kicks off 2012 cycling season
Saturday, April 28th (see website ride schedule for starting times)
Campgaw Mountain Reservation, Campgaw Rd, Mahwah, NJ

PicnicIt's time for the annual BTCNJ picnic: a time for club members to ride together and then hang out with old and new friends and enjoy lots of food. Rides of all levels (A through D) depart from the large gravel parking area near the picnic site on the Campgaw entrance road (Fike Rd). Check the website for ride listings and departure times.

Whats the cost of participation, you ask? FOOD! Please bring one potluck dish that will feed 6-8 people. Bring two if you like! There will be no shortage of big appetites. Click here to find out what type of food to bring, based on the first letter of your last name

We need volunteers to help with setup, cleanup, marshaling the food tables, and helping out in the grill area. All help will be appreciated. To volunteer, please contact Claudia Dukeshire at (201) 818-0480 or Claudia Dukeshire@Hotmail.com. Click here for details on volunteer needs.

DIRECTIONS: skicampgaw.com. Picnic area is on the left across from main gate to ski area.

May meeting: learn from a racing champ
Thursday, May 10, 2012 7:30 pm
Ridgewood Public Library
Ridgewood, NJ

welcomeIf you want to improve your skills as a cyclist, you will not want to miss the May meeting. Roger Aspholm, the founder and owner of FinKraft, an endurance sports coaching firm, will be discussing what you need to do to become a better cyclist.

Aspholm is currently a category 1 (highest rank amateur level) on the road and in cyclocross. Among his achievements are the 2010 masters road race national champion, 3rd 2010 masters national time trial champion and, 2006 US Grand Prix cyclocross elite masters champion. Since moving to the US from his native Finland, Roger has 200 wins in various races, including over a dozen NJ state championships.

Roger will discuss how to make yourself a better athlete and go beyond what you thought was possible.

New members invited to dinner
Sunday, May 6, 2012 5:00 PM
122 Arcadia Rd, Allendale, NJ 07401
(Home of Andrea and Nick Mangino)

Hopefully you have started to do some club rides now that Spring has sprung! If you have joined BTCNJ within the past six months and have not attended a new member dinner in the past, you are cordially invited to attend our new member welcome dinner . This is an opportunity to meet other new members, club leaders, and learn more about how the club operates. This will be a social gathering, with good food and great people. On behalf of the BTCNJ Board of Directors, I look forward to personally welcoming you to BTCNJ and learning more about YOU!

Please RSVP to terrygriffin62@aol.com ONLY IF YOU ARE ATTENDING. Note that this event is for members only - sorry no guests due to space. Every new member gets a chance to attend one of these when they join.

New members ride is scheduled
Saturday, May 12, 2012 9:30 am
Ramsey Municipal Parking Lot 26 North Central, Ramsey, NJ

Whether you are a new or veteran rider, whether you ride a D, C, or C* pace (and if you aren't sure where you fit, we will help you find out) you are welcome to join this ride. Meet your fellow new members, learn about group riding, and have a great time. We have rides scheduled ranging from 12 to 25 miles, and have a lot of assistance from experienced, dedicated ride leaders. A deli gathering is planned following the rides. Interested? Just sign up on the website in the Ride Schedule section.

Leader Jersey available for pickup

Ride Leader Jerseys will be available for pick-up at the club picnic for those who didn't get them at the last club meeting. Or you can contact Ken Stahl ksbike453@gmail.com to schedule a pick-up at his house in Wyckoff. One way or the other, please make an effort to pick yours up soon. There are very few extras, but if you're not happy with your fit, let Ken know, and he will keep track of anyone wanting to swap....maybe some exchanges among recipients are possible.

2012 Year In Review update

It's hard to believe, but the Year in Review 2012 is just around the corner. Jeff Martz, a professional videographer for a broadcast TV news channel, agreed to take charge of the event. He has many exciting plans for this year including the use of video and still photography. He can't do this alone. This is where YOU come in. You need to start collecting photos, and if possible videos now.

At the moment we're going to make this simple until a formal collection procedure is in place. If you already have photos: (1) Send them to btcnjyir@gmail.com. You can send them in small batches. (2) Burn them onto a CD and mail it directly to: Jeff Martz, 34 Amethyst Lane, Paterson, NJ 07501

If you have any problems getting photos or videos to him, send him an e mail. He'll be happy to get together with you and work out the glitches.

Tour Updates

There is still availability for both of the Memorial Day Weekend tours. Check out the Multi-Day Tours page on the website for more information about these.
